What do you need to install it?

We need to distinguish between two functions: updating your navigation data and displaying your plan.

Update of navigation data requires:

Windows 95/98/Me/NT4/2000

Internet Explorer 4 and > or Netscape 4.x

Plan display is possible on all operating systems (Windows, Mac, Linux, etc.) with all browsers that support Java.

Does MapStan.net work with operating systems other than Windows?

Yes. Only to display your plan on MapStan.net.
This means you can update your navigation data on a Windows machine and display your plan from any machine with a browser that supports Java.

When are my navigation data updated?

By default, MapStan.net automatically updates your navigation data every 150 pages visited and at least once a day.
If you want, you can force-update your plan by selecting the "Update Navigation" option on the MapStan Toolbar.

Why does my plan often change?

Your plan is calculated by analyzing the navigation habits of Internet users who resemble you. So whenever a user similar to you browses, this is reflected in real-time on your plan.

Do other users have access to my data?

No, anonymity is guaranteed on all navigation information supplied by all users. Each plan is personal and corresponds only to your profile; no one else has access to it.

Why don't I see all the sites of my navigation history?

To make your plan more efficient, MapStan.net restricts the number of sites in your history to 30 on the basis of two criteria: last known visit and number of visits.

What means the " plan of the day "? 

The "plan of the day" is the  plan of the recent navigation of similar Net surfers. "recent navigation" signifies the navigation since the last two days. Thus, You can visualize everyday the trends of navigation (of your community) and discover new sites which interest you.

What means the " Best Sites " of MapStan.net ?

The " Best Sites " correspond to significant sites classified according to 4 categories: 

Best audience (in a number of single users),

Best traffic growth (in a number of pages seen),

Best traffic per user (in a number of pages seen per user),

Best new audience (in a number of single users).

This classification is carried out over one week, i.e. the last 7 days. You can thus know in real time the trends of the MapStan.net community. 

The plan's research tool do not work and the website list is empty. What to do?

MapStan.net 's plan is displayed with an applet that communicates with a HTML page through scripts. If your browser's security options don't authorize this communication, the research tools can't work properly. With Internet Explorer, you can check if your browser authorizes "ActiveX controls recognized to be safe for scripts writing" (Tools/Internet Options/Security/Custom level).

Why does Netscape shut down when I try to send a new mail with the installed MapStan Toolbar?
MapStan Toolbar for Netscape uses DDE (Dynamic Data Exchange) to communicate with your Netscape Communicator browser in order to recognize your visited pages. When an application realizes DDE communications with this browser, a bug from Netscape messages manager shut down the browser at each HTML message creation. If this happens, you should:

either stop your navigation registration by unchecking "Register Navigation" in the MapStan Toolbar,

or, uncheck the HTML format into Netscape (Edit/Preferences/Mail & Newsgroups/Messages option),

or, stop to use your email when MapStan Toolbar registers your data ("Register Navigation" checked).

Why the square's names appears black & white with Netscape Navigator 4.x?

This problem only occurs when the display is TrueColor 32bits, it is the consequence of a bug in Netscape Java Virtual Machine. This problem does not exists with other display modes (24, 16, 8 bits).

Can I exclude certain sites from my plan?

Yes. From the plan, you can click on the concerned website and choose " Delete " in the menu. A confirmation is requested. Be careful, this function deletes for real every sign of these websites in your historical. You can then immediately have access to this new plan integrating the deletion (F5 key into Internet Explorer).
You will be able to reintegrate these websites into your historical by modifying your "Exclusion list" that you find on your plan or on MapStan.net website.

Into the yellow area of my historical, there is a small place that contains a big amount of websites. What does it mean?

MapStan.net service has just started; consequently, it is possible that you have a specific navigation that it not shared with other users. In this case, these websites on the small place correspond to websites that only you have visited. This situation will soon disappear with the increased number of users.

I just registered and I don't have a lot of places on my plan. What can I do ?

Apparently, your navigation history stored in your browser was very small. You will now have to surf on the Internet. Your historical will progressively be more and more interesting with your navigation, and you will be able to beneficiate of a very rich MapStan.net plan fitting to your centers of interests.

How can i simply find sites "close" to a particular site ?

The function "Discover" enables you to visualize the web navigation plan of the users who visited a given site. This function is accessible since the plan (in the menu of each site), or since the page "Best Sites". You will thus discover nearest sites based on the internet users' experience. Indeed, MapStan.net does not use any preliminary classification which, by definition, would limit the discovery to already listed sites.

Is it possible to have several plans corresponding to different profiles?

Yes. To do this, you simply register several times with different e-mail addresses (e.g. work address and personal address). You then choose the profile used by MapStan.net in the "Identity" menu on the MapStan Toolbar.

Is it possible to get recommendations on a new subject?

MapStan.net is not a search engine, but it lets you take advantage of the experience of Internet users who share your centers of interest. This means that as soon as you look up a site relating to a new subject, your plan incorporates the recommendations of Internet users on that subject.

Can I stop my navigation data being collected using the MapStan Toolbar?

Yes, to do this you simply uncheck the "Register Navigation" option on the MapStan Toolbar. However, this is not recommended if you want to take advantage of the functionalities of MapStan.net.

May I cancel my access to the Mapstan.net service?

Yes, , to cancel your access you have to send us an email confirming your cancel request to privacy@mapstan.com and adding your subscription email address with your password. All the data related to this access will be deleted.
