The MapStan.net site uses "Web Positioning System" technology to give you a plan of your Internet navigation history.

The plan is like an A to Z map; it is made up of squares and streets. It is calculated on the basis of your navigation habits and the habits of Internet users who resemble you.

square image

Squares represent one or more sites. The name of the most representative site is permanently displayed. The names of the other sites appear when the cursor moves over the square. Two sites are represented in a single square when practically all users who browse the first site also go to the second. When the mouse arrow is moved inside a square, each of the square's sites is highlighted.

menu image

By clicking, you display a menu with several submenus:

• "History": pages you have already visited on that site,

• "Top 10": the ten pages most frequently visited by MapStan.net Internet users,

• "Suggestions": the pages most visited by Internet users most like you,

• "Remove": remove the selected site from your history.

• "Discover": visualize the web navigation plan of the users attending that site.

Clicking on a submenu item takes you to the page in question.

Clicking on a site while pressing the SHIFT key takes you to it directly, without going via the menu.

A square's size indicates how often users most like you visit its sites. The bigger the square is, the more frequently the sites have been visited.

street image

A street represents the relation that exists between the sites it links. The wider the street is, the larger the number of Internet users who visit all these sites at a time. The shorter the street is, the smaller the proportion of Internet users who visit the first square's sites but don't visit the second's is weak, and vice versa.

zones image

Squares and streets in yellow represent sites where you have already been: your navigation history. If you are a big-time surfer, MapStan.net classifies your sites on the basis of when you last visited, up to a maximum of 40.
Squares in blue represent sites where you haven't yet been, but where Internet users (who resemble you) often go.

The MapStan.net plan is your navigation plan. That is why it first of all locates the sites in your navigation history on the basis of the links between them: the yellow zone. Then, it positions the other sites based on the varying level of attraction to sites in the yellow zone and then their relation with sites in the blue zone.

search tools image

The search tools at the bottom of the plan are used to quickly highlight sites according to simple criteria. The selected sites appear with an icon specific to each search type. For easy location, sites are linked to the square that contains them.

The "Search" field is used to run a text search on one or more site names.

The "(Sites)" list is used to run an alphabetical search on one of the sites in the plan.

The "(History)" list is used to search sites on the basis of the date visited, according to 4 criteria:

  • Today: sites visited today (D),
  • Last Week: sites visited in the last week (between D-1 and D-7),
  • Last 2 Weeks: sites visited more than one week and less than two weeks ago (between D-8 and D-14),
  • Last Month : sites visited more than two weeks and less than one month ago (between D-15 and D-M).
  • The status bar gives the long name of the site the cursor is pointing to, and the available options.
